Reducing Waste

The Life Cycle of Our rPET Bottles

Collection

After being sorted by consumers, PET bottles are collected and taken to a recycling plat along with other recyclable materials.

Separation

At the recycling plant, the recyclable materials are separated and sorted into their own recycling streams.

Once all the non-plastic waste has been removed, high-value recyclable plastics (like PET) are separated to remove other plastics contaminating the PET recycling process - these plastics are removed as they limit quality for reuse in turn, reducing efficiency and contributing to waste.

Processing

Once the PET has been compressed and transported to a processing centre, the bottles are separated into colour streams and ground up into small crushed flakes.

Cleaning

The PET flakes are then washed as they contain contaminants such as ground up lids, rings, labels and glue.

This cleaning process removes these contaminants and prepares the flakes to be converted into a high-temperature decontamination section where migrated post-consumer substances and flavours are removed.

This material is then melted and any remaining solid contaminants are separated with a filter.

Extrusion & Pelletisation

The melt is then converted into spherical, crystalline-PET-pellets for the production of new Pet bottles.

Reforming

The recycled PET is then sent for use in the packaging industry.
